Your walking companions are there to guide and inspire you on your journey. These virtual Chickasaw individuals hold a wealth of knowledge, sharing invaluable oral histories, prayers, and songs that have been passed down through generations. They make the journey engaging and educational, leaving you with a deeper understanding of Chickasaw culture and a profound connection to the past.

AYA introduces you to a variety of virtual walking partners, each with unique stories and insights into Chickasaw culture. Here are a few partners you can walk alongside.

Before the arrival of European explorers, Akanowa eagerly awaits the birth of her grandson. Alongside the other women of the village, she tends to the earth, sowing seeds and exchanging cherished tales of their people. Attuned to the signs of nature and immersed in the preparations for sacred ceremonies, Akanowa imparts her profound wisdom as a revered Chickasaw elder.

A warrior named Hikatubby prepares to protect his village from an incoming invasion led by Hernando de Soto. These invaders look different from the tribe, with hairy faces and light-colored skin, and they demand food, supplies, and even people from the villages they pass through. Hikatubby is determined to defend his village.

William, a student at the Chickasaw National Academy in Stonewall, Indian Territory, had a strong and determined mother who provided him with the best education she could. Raised by his mother after his father went missing during the Civil War, William found solace and confidence in his horse, Shobbokoli', feeling swift, agile, and graceful while riding.

Learning the Chickasaw Language

AYA offers an interactive and immersive language learning experience. As you stroll, you unlock new Chickasaw words, phrases and prayers, gradually expanding your vocabulary. This exceptional feature combines fitness and language education, fostering a deep understanding of the Chickasaw language - its sounds, structures, and meanings. It seamlessly integrates language learning into your fitness routine. Plus, you can revisit the unlocked words and prayers at any time to refresh your memory.

AYA's unique approach to language learning focuses on actionable words and phrases that can be used in daily life. This strategy helps to bring the Chickasaw language off the app and into everyday communication. Greet your loved ones with "Chokma!" - a word meaning "good"  used in greeting, or express gratitude by saying "Yakoke" (thank you).

With AYA, you can learn phrases to say "I love you"   - "Chiholloli" to your family and friends or even share a Chickasaw prayer to begin a meeting. By incorporating Chickasaw language into your daily routine, you are not only enriching your own linguistic skills but also playing an active role in keeping the Chickasaw language alive and vibrant among your loved ones and your community.
